Frances trained as an Occupational Therapist in (1961 – 64) She did a years VSO in the ex Belgian Congo ( Zaire) 1965-66 in Paediatrics and trauma , then worked in Kent in a Psychiatric Day Hospital for 2 years . At Bromley High school she had done well in English and Art. She was missing doing her own Art and was fortunate to be accepted at Brighton College of Education for an Art Teachers training course age 24 . She took 6 months off her regular work during which time she was living on her boat NATSOPA on the Medway at Rochester, and met John Oliver. This meeting changed her life .
Frances is an Occupational Therapist and an artist who works in a wide variety of media including oil and watercolour , glass water features , stone carving , and paper making . She has a special interest in multi sensory installations using light and music.
She has a studio in Faversham , Kent .
Frances has enjoyed writing all her life – mostly poetry and short stories. This is her first full length book .
She has a daughter ,Tamsin , a son, Joss, and two creative granddaughters Poppy and Laurel .
She welcomes guests to stay at her home and enjoy the delights of this lively old Market town , or to stay on her houseboat ‘JOLIVER’ (which was left to her by John Oliver ). This is berthed in a quiet creek near a pub and the Oare Marshes Nature Reserve. Details and images on www.airbnb.co.uk.
